Mission:
To conduct scientific researches leading the fields related to sustainable energy systems and energy science and technologies and, in consequence of researches, to teach and produce new scientific technologies in collaboration with industry and non-governmental organizations.
Vision: To be a prominent research, application and education center at both national and international levels in the field of sustainable energy systems and energy science and technologies.
Objective: Due to industrialization and rapidly growing population, the need for energy reached the top level in parallel with advancing technology. The awareness of energy crisis lead the researchers to searching new solutions and using new technologies in this regard. It is assumed that one of the conventional energy resources meeting the large part of energy demand, fossil fuels, particularly petrol, will consumed away in the next 200-300 years. In order to generate a solution for this situation, numerous r&d and p&d projects concerning both conventional and alternative energy resources are needed.
Renewable energy occupies a highly important position to reduce foreign dependency by meeting the energy needs of countries with domestic resources, enable the usage of sustainable energy by diversifying resources and minimalize environmental damages in consequence of energy consumption. Today, nearly 20% of energy consumed around the world is obtained from renewable resources. Although the dependency on fossil fuels is at high level in the current situation, the utilization of renewable energy is increasing by years.
Keeping up with the global trend in recent years, Turkey has made significant progress in the field of renewable energy. While Turkey's total installed power of renewable energy is approximately 90,720 MW as of the end of 2019, 32% of the total electricity production is met by renewable resources. Most of this installed power consists of hydraulic energy. Though the number of resources defined as modern renewable energy types such as wind and sun have increased over the years, they are not yet at a satisfactory level.
The Sustainable Energy Systems Application and Research Center, which is planned to be founded within this context aims to,
- Conduct researches on sustainable energy systems
- Make pioneering scientific researches on energy and related fields
- Carry out R&D/P&D projects supported by energy sector
- Raise individuals with high academic formation by giving high-quality education
- Be a leading center by producing ideas, recommendations and solutions.

Conduct researches and develop new technologies in the fields of energy science and technologies
In this regard;
- To make researches on methods, processes and technology development for producing environmentally friendly clean energy using alternative/renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, biomass; to put them into practice, to contribute to studies on these issues and to carry out activities that encourage these studies

Carry out research and development (R&D) studies to increase efficiency in the use of conventional energy sources such as coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear, and to eliminate/reduce the possible negative effects of energy production centers on the environment with the use of these resources, and to have new methods and processes in this regard and developing and applying technologies

Determine the energy use performances in industry and buildings, to develop advanced materials, methods and technologies to ensure effective-efficient use of energy in these vehicles and to reduce energy loss

Carry out interdisciplinary, coordinated project studies, which bring different science and technology fields together in order to reveal advanced products, methods, processes and technologies in energy technology by carrying out applied basic sciences, engineering and architectural researches at an interdisciplinary level

Train expert lecturers in the field of energy technologies and to produce solutions to energy problems

Ensure cooperation with industry, universities and other research institutions and organizations for the development of energy technology and carry out regional, national and international activities such as making and directing model, strategy, plan and project studies

Contribute to the R&D activities of energy technologies in Turkey with infrastructure, projects and trained manpower

Determine the potentials of renewable energy resources in the region and throughout Turkey and to encourage energy production from them as a unit for scientific and technological research, development, application and education related to energy production systems and technologies.
The Sustainable Energy Systems Application and Research Center of Haliç University is going to be a leading research, application and training center for teaching and producing new scientific technologies in cooperation with industry and non-governmental organizations as a result of pioneering advanced scientific research in the fields of energy science and technologies.
