Irmak Vahide Öztürk, Efnan Yazıcı, Şevval Nur Çelik and Serra Dartar, 2nd year students of the Gastronomy Department of our university, came second in the cooking competition organized among universities. The competition was held with the concept of a "closed box" where the main ingredient was unknown. Our students achieved a significant success by preparing the dish they named "The Dream of the Sea" in 60 minutes.
Volkan Aslan, Chef de Cuisine of the Gastronomy Department, stated that the students prepared for the competition in a very short time. He stated that they exchanged ideas on sauces and alternatives in advance due to the closed box concept. After learning that the main ingredient was fish, he said that the students used the cooking techniques they had acquired for two years to create the dish called "The Dream of the Sea" and that they were proud as a department. Chef Aslan made the following statements:
"As the Department of Gastronomy, we explain all the cooking techniques in the world cuisine, every stage of the meal from the preparation to the presentation during the four-year education process. We aim to reveal the final form of a product with the understanding of "from field to table".
Efnan Yazıcı, one of the students who achieved an important success with teamwork, said the following:
We were not excited at first, but the competition against time stressed us out. Despite this, we overcame our stress thanks to teamwork. We managed to work in a balanced and happy way. Despite the time constraint, we managed the time well. Also, the experience of working in a different kitchen was very enjoyable for us."
