Our university celebrated March 14th, Medicine Day, with an event attended by academics and students. The event, held in the Grand Conference Hall, focused on the history of medical education and the significance of March 14th.

The program began with an opening speech by Prof. Ece Salihoğlu, Dean of Haliç University. Prof. Salihoğlu emphasized that the medical profession requires sacrifice and dedication, stating, “Today is very meaningful for us because this is not just a holiday or a day of celebration. Today marks the beginning of a completely distinct profession, a pivotal moment for a society to survive, maintain its independence, and continue its existence. Therefore, especially for those who are aspiring to join this profession, the meaning of today is much deeper. It serves as an opportunity to better understand the beauty, responsibilities, and obligations that come with this profession. I hope that the speeches you will hear today will be enlightening and help you better grasp the depth of the profession.”

During the event, Prof. Ali Arslan, Faculty Member of the History Department at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Literature, presented a lecture titled "The History of Medical Education in Our Country," covering the history of medical education from Ancient Egypt to the Republican Era.

Following that, Dr. Sevim Yağız, Head of the Department of Medical History and Ethics, gave a talk titled "The Beginnings of March 14th" in which she shared the origins of Medicine Day and its significance for the medical community.

The event concluded with the presentation of plaques and certificates of participation to the speakers, followed by a music performance by our conservatory professors and students.
