Message from the Dean

In order to strengthen the positive effect of the of the university instution which is the main channel of qualified human resource required by the knowledge society, on economic growth and social development through education and research activities, efforts for organizational and functional restructuring of the university have gradually increased over the last quarter century. Today, while Anglo-Saxon and Far Eastern countries have the most successful examples of universities in this framework, European universities have the second highest performance, showing significant variation by country. Turkey's implementation of the reforms in the European Higher Education Area and the European Research Area is not an optional choice; on the contrary, it is an obligation as a candidate for membership of the European Union and as one of the first to sign the Council of European Cultural Convention. For a new generation university, an organizational and operating model that is compatible with the European university and research reform agenda is inevitable.

Industry 4.0 and society 5.0 are the frameworks in which the digital university and digital campus concepts will find the most effective areas of application. The compability of the new-generation university model with the thematic and regional development-oriented university vision of the Council of Higher Education is also significant in terms of bringing synergy to national priorities. In the new-generation university model, it can be said that many innovations come to the fore in terms of organizational and functional configuration:

  1. The education, research and social service mission of the new-generation university and its alumni profile.
  2. Policy development and implementation offices.
  3. Effective participation of stakeholders, especially students and alumni in the workplace, in decision-making, implementation and feedback processes through the university ecosystem consultation and guidance board and other committees and boards.
  4. Learning on the job through concept courses and branded courses, diversifying learning channels and making learning practice-based.
  5. Recognition and dissemination of prior learning.
  6. Co-operative education (CO-OP) model and solution partnerships.
  7. Taking the input and measures of occupational standards, curricula and graduate profiles together with the European and Turkish Qualifications Frameworks.

Haliç University is an institution with a high potential to become a new-generation university owing to its name, location and the flexibility of being a foundation university. "Application-Based and Competency-Oriented New-Generation University" is an appropriate motto for digital and entrepreneurial universities. Our main priority will be to ensure that graduates of the Faculty of Business Administration graduate with knowledge, skills and competencies at the levels envisaged in Turkey's national frameworks and professional standards.
