Address to Youth

Turkish Youth!

Your primary duty is to preserve and defend, forever, Turkish independence and the Turkish Republic.

This is the sole foundation of your existence and your future. This foundation is your most precious treasure. In the future as well, there will be internal and external adversaries who will seek to deprive you of this treasure. Should you one day find yourself compelled to defend independence and the Republic, you shall not consider the circumstances or conditions in which you find yourself before undertaking your duty. These circumstances and conditions may appear extremely unfavorable.

The enemies who aim to destroy your independence and your Republic may represent a victory unparalleled in the world. By force and by deceit, all the fortresses of your cherished homeland may have been seized, all its shipyards occupied, all its armies disbanded, and every corner of the country may be under actual occupation. Even more distressing and grave than all these conditions, those who hold power within the country may be in a state of negligence, misguidance or even treason. Moreover, these holders of power may align their personal interests with the political ambitions of the invaders. The nation itself may have fallen into poverty and destitution, exhausted and helpless.

Child of the Turkish future!
Even under such circumstances and conditions, your duty is to save Turkish independence and the Turkish Republic.
The strength you need exists in the noble blood that flows in your veins.
