About The Program

Psychology is a word derived by combining the words psykhe (spirit) and logos (knowledge). It is a science that examines the essence and different states of the human soul and tries to find the rules of phenomena such as sensation, enthusiasm and thinking. Man, as a living creature, has a tendency to adapt to his environment and develop in a balanced way within himself. Psychology also tries to explain and predict its behavior by applying the laws it has obtained to human beings.

Today, the findings of psychology are used in many different fields. The use of psychological knowledge in the fields of education, medicine, industry and economy enables people to be more successful. Success in this field has increased and a healthier, more modern understanding of education has developed by using the psychological information obtained in the fields of growth, development, abilities, interest, intelligence, excitement, memory, thinking and learning in the field of education.

Clinical Psychology: Clinical psychology is the most well-known subfield of psychology among the public. When many people think of a psychologist, the picture that comes to mind is the clinical psychologist picture. Clinical psychologists are concerned with evaluating (diagnosing) and treating individuals with mental, behavioral, and emotional problems. Clinical psychologists specialize in psychological testing and psychological treatment. Working with psychiatrists in hospitals, they can deal with severe cases such as schizophrenia. They usually work as a member of the diagnostic and treatment team in the hospital.

Developmental Psychology: Developmental psychology studies the development of a person from prenatal to death. Developmental psychologists at the doctoral level work as researchers/academics in universities and research institutions. Developmental psychology is one of the fields that feeds psychology, especially clinical psychology, theoretically. Developmental psychologists at undergraduate and graduate levels work as development specialists in clinics, kindergartens and nursing homes.

Social Psychology: Social psychology is concerned with how individuals interact with each other and how they are affected by their environment. It is one of the subfields that provides the broadest theoretical knowledge to psychology. The subjects of study are very broad and diverse. Social psychologists often work as researchers at universities. However, in recent years, it has been observed that they work in the field of application in advertising and public relations companies.

Industrial/Organizational Psychology: It is a branch of research that uses the data of psychology to select personnel for industrial work, to arrange the produced tools and equipment in accordance with the human structure, and to solve the psychological problems of the employees. Industrial psychology is concerned with issues such as arranging workplaces in accordance with human health, doing the job in the most appropriate way with the least amount of energy, and working in accordance with the physiological structure and abilities of the person.

Educational Psychology: It is a field developed by applying the findings in the fields of psychology that investigates perception, learning, thinking, motivation, excitement, intelligence and personality, environment-human interaction to education. This theoretical (institutional) information has been used to solve many problems in the field of education and training. Innovations and developments related to both students and teachers and teaching techniques are the results of these studies. In addition, the necessity of arranging the physical conditions of school life and providing education and training in more suitable environments were determined in the light of these researches.

As the Department of Psychology, our aim is to raise graduates who can understand human nature, inner world, emotions, thoughts and behaviors and be aware of personal and life events that affect them. Our department expects undergraduates to have a good grasp of human psychology, to understand the personal dynamics that cause problems, to recognize and formulate psychological diseases, and to help people with a holistic approach.

Vision

The types of mid-term studies and their contribution to the course success grade are announced to students by the instructor teaching the course at the beginning of each semester. The grades of all mid-term studies and final exams related to the courses are announced.

4. The absolute evaluation system has been abolished and a relative evaluation system has been adopted.
