Established in 1998, Haliç University Department of American Culture and Literature aims to introduce students to the development of American culture and literature from its inception to the present, both through departmental courses and through conferences, seminars and art events organized with other universities. Established in 1998, the foundations of the American Culture and Literature department have been laid out in English-medium education in order to promote the cultural, historical and literary periods and the development of America from beginning up to today. Our undergraduate program not only encompasses American Literature courses but also enriches students with English Literature, Comparative Literature, Translation Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies thank to our experienced academic staff. Subsequent to the program changes as part of Bologna Process since 2012, we have started to use European Credit System (ECTS). |
| Our graduates completing the two-year program of our curriculum are awarded “the Associate Degree in American Culture and Literature”, while the graduates completing our four-year curriculum are awarded “the Bachelor’s Degree in American Culture and Literature”. |
| Applicant students for the Department of American Culture and Literature are required to pass central placement exam held by OSYM and to not be registered in any higher education institution. The candidates entitled to be placed with their DİL-1 scores and order of choice can make their final registration by applying the concerned department of University in person or through the medium of their proxies between the registration dates assigned by OSYM and the University. Original documents or copies certified by the University are accepted for registration. Associate and undergraduate degree programs accept students according to the exam held by the Center for Evaluation, Selection And Placement (OSYM) or the decisions of the Council Of Higher Education (YOK). |
| Our graduates with a bachelor's degree can study in the graduate programs in their own field or other related areas if they fulfill the requirements. |

1) To successfully complete all the necessary requirements of their education program. 2) To complete 120 ECTS for two-year associate degree programs, 240 ECTS for four-year undergraduate programs, 300 ECTS for the five-year programs granting both undergraduate and graduate degrees and 360 ECTS for six-year programs. 3) To pass all the compulsory and elective courses required by the program. 4) To acquire at least 2.00 CGPA. 5) To not be discharged from the University. |
| After graduation, the students of our department can work as translators or become English teachers by obtaining the Certificate of English Language Teaching; furthermore, they can also work in other fields including multinational corporations, advertising and public relations, tourism, media, printing and publishing and diplomacy. Students who wish to have an academic pursuit can continue their graduate studies in various universities both in Turkey and abroad. |
