The Faculty of Arts and Sciences is one of the fundamental units that, in addition to providing education in its own departments, also offers a portion of the science and social science courses required by other departments within the university. Our faculty was established in 1998 as one of the founding faculties of Haliç University.
Within our faculty, the Department of American Culture and Literature was established in 1998, followed by the Departments of Molecular Biology and Genetics and Psychology in 2000, the Department of Translation and Interpreting (English) in 2005, the Department of Mathematics in 2007, and the Departments of Turkish Language and Literature and History in 2016. Although the Department of History currently does not have any enrolled students, it provides elective courses to various departments within both our university and faculty.
Our faculty staff consists of 6 professors, 2 associate professors, 28 assistant professors, 1 lecturer, 14 research assistants, 1 technical assistant, and 2 laboratory technicians.
Our academic staff also deliver core science and culture courses to departments outside our faculty. The departments within our faculty offer a participatory, computer- and modern laboratory-supported theoretical and practical education. Since the implementation of the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) in 2012, in accordance with the Bologna Process, at least 25% of the courses in our programs have been designated as electives. Our programs are designed to provide a solid foundation in the basic sciences, enriched with elective courses that allow students to pursue multiple fields of interest. As a result, our students are expected to become individuals who are conscious of lifelong learning, capable of accessing and analyzing information, making sound decisions, and who are inquisitive, research-oriented, ethical, and respectful towards people and nature. In other words, our departments provide an education that teaches students how to learn.
Except for the Departments of American Culture and Literature, English Translation and Interpreting, English Psychology, and Molecular Biology and Genetics, the language of instruction in our faculty is Turkish. Additionally, an English preparatory program is available for students who wish to improve their language skills.
Both our students and academic staff benefit from Erasmus exchange programs. Within the framework of bilateral agreements and arrangements, our students can receive educational support at partner universities in other participating countries through the Erasmus program. Similarly, our academic staff can teach as visiting lecturers at partner universities, and faculty members from partner institutions can come to our university under the same program.
Our aim is for our graduates to become individuals who continuously develop themselves in their professional lives, are inquisitive, and can easily adapt to innovations.
