About The Program

The Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Haliç University offers an undergraduate program designed with an interdisciplinary approach, encompassing the historical development of Turkish literature from its origins to the present day. The program aims to equip students with the competence to evaluate both our traditional cultural heritage and contemporary literary and intellectual trends.

The curriculum offers a rich content that covers classical and modern Turkish literature, folk literature, and literary genres such as poetry, novel, short story, and drama, as well as linguistics, text analysis, and literary theory. Established in the 2016-2017 academic year, our department provides students with the opportunity to learn about the historical development and dialects of Turkish, analyze classical texts, and conduct comparative analyses with contemporary literature. In this context, the primary objectives of the department include enabling students to evaluate literary texts within historical, cultural, and linguistic frameworks, follow trends in world literature, engage in intertextual reading, develop critical thinking, and acquire academic writing skills.

In addition to academic depth, our students are offered opportunities for development at both national and international levels. Through the Erasmus+ student exchange program, our department provides opportunities for international mobility; furthermore, students can benefit from double major and minor programs within our university to gain academic experience in different disciplines.

Our program, mindful of the requirements of the digital age, encourages students to take an interest in current and innovative fields such as digital publishing, online content production, digital humanities, the digitization of cultural heritage, and AI-supported language technologies. Accordingly, students are trained to become productive individuals in the digital world, equipped with critical thinking and content development skills.

Our graduates, by taking advantage of pedagogical formation training, may serve as Turkish Language and Literature teachers in institutions affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. In addition, they may be employed in state and private libraries, archives, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, TRT and other public institutions, as well as in publishing houses, magazines, media organizations, cultural and artistic platforms, and creative sectors such as advertising. Fields such as editing, copywriting, and scriptwriting are also among the professional areas our graduates pursue.

Commitment to Atatürk’s principles and reforms, upholding the values of the Republic, scientific reasoning, aesthetic sensitivity, and ethical responsibility are among the core principles of our department. Embracing interdisciplinary approaches and contemporary theoretical orientations, our department aims to educate students as competent individuals not only in the field of literature but also in all areas of cultural and intellectual production.

Vision

To be a pioneering department that educates versatile and interdisciplinary individuals capable of interpreting Turkish language, literature, and culture in social, aesthetic, and digital contexts.

Mission

Our mission is to educate individuals who are highly equipped academically in the field of Turkish Language and Literature, capable of critical thinking, aware of cultural heritage, and able to adapt to the requirements of the digital age. Our primary goal is for our students to possess the qualifications to represent and compete at both national and international levels.

Message from the Head of Department

As the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, we adopt a dynamic and critical educational approach that brings together the cultural accumulation of literature with the intellectual and digital opportunities of today. Our aim is not only to equip our students with knowledge but also to educate them as individuals who can interpret literary, cultural, and social texts, think critically, and develop creative solutions.

Our main objective is to graduate individuals who are sensitive to interdisciplinary perspectives, cultural diversity, and universal values, and who are competent to express themselves in both Turkish and international academic platforms. In this direction, we offer our students a versatile learning environment that includes both traditional knowledge and contemporary research methods.

We invite all students who are passionate about Turkish, literature, and thought to join us on this journey.
