About The Program

Mission:
T.C. Haliç University aims to educate health professionals who comply with national and international Midwifery Criteria, respect human rights and freedoms, are researchers at national and international level, competitive, contribute to science, have free and versatile thinking power, comply with the principles of health ethics, are responsible, adopt interdisciplinary cooperation and teamwork in the field of health, are researchers, respect human values, have the necessary knowledge and skills in the field of profession, in accordance with the Principles and Decrees of Atatürk.

To be a leading Department that conducts original education and research in the field of health sciences and is preferred on national and international platforms.

Teaching Methods

The program includes basic science courses, behavioral sciences and professional foundation courses. These courses are carried out in the form of theory, laboratory practice and clinical practice according to their content.

Recognition of Prior Learning

A student who has started his education in an equivalent program in the country or abroad can apply for lateral transfer in line with the admission requirements of the department.

Qualification Requirements and Rules

There are no additional conditions other than admission and registration conditions for admission to the department. Our students graduate in line with the criteria specified in the regulation numbered 26775, which came into force on February 2, 2008 by the Council of Higher Education, which was prepared in parallel with the Directive No. 2005/36/EC of the European Union. The qualifications of the students regarding the graduation stage are evaluated within the scope of graduation conditions.

Field Qualifications

Midwives who graduated at the end of midwifery education;

  • Having sufficient knowledge of the sciences on which midwifery activities are based, especially in obstetrics and gynecology,
  • Having sufficient knowledge about professional ethics and legal legislation related to the profession,
  • To have detailed knowledge of biological functions, anatomy and physiology in the field of newborn and obstetrics and to have a sufficient understanding of the relationship between health and the physical and social environment and the behavior of a healthy individual,
  • Having passed an adequate clinical experience in approved institutions under the supervision and supervision of qualified personnel in midwifery and obstetrics,The training of health personnel and the experience of working with these personnel are sufficient. They need to be able to understand.
  • To provide healthy family planning information and advice;
  • To diagnose pregnancy and to follow normal pregnancy, to carry out necessary examinations to monitor normal pregnancy development;
  • Prescribing or making recommendations regarding the necessary examinations for the earliest possible diagnosis of high-risk pregnancies;
  • Provide a complete birth and parenting program, including advice on hygiene and nutrition.
  • To care for and assist the mother during labor pains and to monitor the condition of the fetus in the uterus by appropriate clinical and technical means;
  • Recognizing the abnormalities in the mother and child that require referral to a physician and assisting the physician when necessary; taking necessary emergency measures, such as manual removal of the placenta, especially following palpation of the uterus, in the absence of a doctor;
  • Caring for and examining the newborn baby; to take necessary actions in case of need and to make emergency resuscitation interventions when necessary;
  • To care for the mother in the postpartum period and to monitor the process; to give the necessary advice to the mother so that the baby can achieve optimum development and to apply the ordered treatment and care.

Courses - ECTS Credits

Course distribution in the curriculum, the total ECTS rate of compulsory courses is 74.1%, field elective 23.4%; non-field electives are 2.5%. Since midwifery education is carried out together with theory and practical applications, clinical practices are carried out together with laboratory and clinical practices in accordance with the curriculum of midwifery courses. The learning outcomes of the courses that make up the programs are arranged in order to provide the program outcomes. We have prerequisite courses.

Academic Calendar

The academic calendar is determined by the Senate in accordance with the Haliç University Undergraduate and Associate Degree Education Regulations. The relevant calendar is available on the website of Haliç University.

Diameter and Side Branch

Major and Minor Majors are determined in accordance with the protocols made with the relevant programs, quota and admission conditions are announced on the website in accordance with the academic calendar. Students who meet the sufficient conditions are accepted to the program. Majoring in Psychology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation departments, and Minor in Psychology department can be done.

The Department of Midwifery, which started accepting students within the School of Health Sciences in the 2007-2008 academic year, has been within the Faculty of Health Sciences since the 2020-2021 academic year.
Those who successfully complete their undergraduate education and training graduate with the title of midwife.
Female students who are high school graduates or equivalent, who are successful in the student selection exam held by the Council of Higher Education, and who register with their numerical score are accepted to the department.
After graduating, after fulfilling the necessary criteria for postgraduate education, they can progress academically by studying at the master's and doctorate level.

Total ECTS must be a minimum of 240.
GPA must be at least 2 or higher.
All compulsory and elective courses must be taken and succeeded.
In order for our students to graduate, they are obliged to fulfill the following criteria in the fields of application throughout their education period:

a) Counseling pregnant women, including at least 100 prenatal examinations,

b) Pregnancy follow-up and care of at least 40 pregnant women,

c) Having at least 40 births by herself (If this number cannot be reached due to the lack of women giving birth, this number can be reduced to 30 on the condition that the student assists in 20 more births.),

ç) Actively participating in breech birth (If breech birth is not possible, simulation should be done),

d) Episiotomy application and starting with suturing (This includes theoretical information and clinical practice. Suture practice includes suturing after episiotomy or simple perianal tears. If necessary, this can be done in the form of simulation.),

e) To monitor and care for 40 women at risk during pregnancy, childbirth or postpartum period,

f) To monitor and care for at least 100 puerperant women and healthy newborn babies (including examination),

g) Including premature, post-term, low birth weight or sick infants requiring special care; newborn baby observation and care,

h) Caring for women with gynecological and obstetric pathology,

ı) It should be included in medical and surgical care (This should include theoretical training and clinical practice).
Graduates of the midwifery department, within the scope of their rights and priorities within their professional boundaries, in the relevant units of public and private hospitals / family medicine / community health centers / maternal and child health centers, in public and private institutions where services are offered to women who have experienced pregnancy and childbirth, in newborn units, in high-risk pregnancy areas and work in the field of public health. In addition, they can open a private cabin and work independently, follow up pregnant women and give birth. After graduating, after fulfilling the necessary criteria for postgraduate education, they can progress academically by studying at the master's and doctorate level. They can work as lecturers in related fields by doing academic work. Our graduates; are sought-after midwives in public and private institutions thanks to their strong educational foundations; finds a job easily and successfully represents our profession.
Students' theoretical and clinical practice skills are evaluated according to their midterm exams, final exams, laboratory work, graduation project, hospital practice, and internship reports within the scope of Article 34 of Chapter 6 of the Haliç University Undergraduate and Associate Degree Education Regulation.
