We live in an age where the effect of visuals outweighs words in our processes of perceiving and interpreting the world. Our environment is surrounded by visual communication elements. We communicate with each other mostly through visuals and try to make sense of the complex images we encounter in daily life. Especially the developments in digital technologies and the rapid spread of multiple communication environments have increased the importance of visual communication. At the point where visuality meets technology, designers who can use the language of images effectively and have advanced visual communication skills are needed.

Visual communication refers to the exchange of thoughts and information using visual elements. Visual communication design, on the other hand, is a field of expertise that adds visual and perception skills to communication and also aims to bring visual solutions to communication problems. Benefiting from the experience of different disciplines, this field has a multi-disciplinary nature that brings together communication, visual arts and technology.

The curriculum of our Visual Communication Design department, which was established within the Faculty of Fine Arts of our university, was also structured to reflect the multidisciplinary nature of the field. Our curriculum includes courses from different disciplines such as communication, graphic design, photography, fine arts, digital game design and animation. Our applied courses and projects that will enable our students to graduate with a personal portfolio allow our students to start gaining professional experience even during their education. On the other hand, it is among the aims of our department that our students have a solid theoretical background and intellectual background in the field, and that they gain the ability to critically evaluate cultural and social life with this knowledge.

With the four-year undergraduate education we will offer in our department, we aim to train visual communication designers who have multiple skills that can address both the global and the local, have advanced visual expression and communication skills, can understand and solve complex visual problems with a systematic approach, and can produce creative solutions by blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills. With these qualifications, our graduates can find opportunity to work as creative directors, art consultants, graphic designers; and they can also find opportunity to work in different fields such as animation, visual effects, desktop publishing, motion graphic design, interface design, 3D visualization, interaction design, photography, multimedia, corporate identity, illustration, packaging design.
