Introduction | Faculty of Medicine

Founded in 1998, Haliç University established its Faculty of Medicine, which commenced its educational activities in the 2017-2018 academic year. Since the 2021-2022 academic year, the Faculty has been proceeding in parallel with its English Medicine program. Since 2022, it has been operating at the 5th Levent Campus, equipped with all laboratories and facilities.

At our Faculty of Medicine, medical education is conducted through an integrated and multidisciplinary approach. With our distinguished academic staff, who have joined us from well-established universities in various fields of expertise, we welcome our students to the basic sciences program. In the 2nd and 3rd years, our curriculum continues on a committee-based structure with “clinical approach” courses integrated with both basic and clinical sciences.

Through courses such as Anatomy, Histology and Embryology, Physiology, Medical Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Medical Biology and Genetics, Biophysics, Biostatistics and Medical History and Ethics, we aim to bridge the gap between basic and clinical sciences and to convey our learning objectives in the most effective manner this constitutes our primary principle.

In our laboratory settings, each student is provided with an individual microscope, allowing for practical learning. With our medical skills laboratories, cadavers, and simulation rooms, we offer our students opportunities to gain experience in different fields before their hospital clerkships.

Starting from the 4th year, our medical education is fully dedicated to Clinical Sciences. During this period, students are taught the processes of diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of diseases. Throughout this stage, medical students acquire these competencies through direct patient interaction and hands-on experience during their hospital internships.

Our students are able to complete their clinical training at the university’s affiliated hospital and at training hospitals accredited by the Ministry of Health institutions that operate in accordance with international quality standards. In addition, efforts are ongoing toward the establishment of our own university training and research hospital.

By the 6th year, students complete all courses and clinical rotations in both basic and clinical sciences. The 6th year constitutes the intern doctor phase. In this final stage, students work under the supervision of specialist physicians in the departments where they previously completed their internships. During this period, students proficiently integrate the knowledge of basic and clinical sciences and develop a multidisciplinary perspective in both patient care and medical research.
