About The Program

Integrated System is applied as a training method in Haliç University, Faculty of Medicine. This system, which is applied in the majority of medical faculties in Turkiye, has been preferred because it facilitates horizontal and vertical transfer opportunities between faculties and also meets International Medical Education Standards.

Education at Haliç University Faculty of Medicine is provided in two separate programs in Turkish and English. Language of instruction proficiency is required for students enrolled in Turkish and English programs. The education period in Faculty of Medicine is six years and consists of three consecutive main periods:

a) Clinic-Integrated Basic Term:

In the first three grades, education mainly consists of Subject Committees formed according to the theoretical and/or applied, horizontally and vertically integrated topics, including systems-based, vocational and clinical skills courses, and the subject committee passing credit system is applied in the exams.

The purpose of the Clinic-Integrated Basic Period is to provide the foundation of medical sciences with vertical integration with the clinic, to present it with both theoretical and skill applications and preparation for the Clinical Medicine Sciences Period, where this will be reinforced with practical clinical training for the application of the art of medicine.

b) Clinical Medical Sciences Period:

This period covers the fourth and fifth grades where there are Clerkships that include laboratory work and applied areas such as clinics, polyclinics, and operating rooms.

The purpose of the Clinical Medicine Sciences Period is to reinforce the theoretical knowledge and skill applications learned in the Clinic-Integrated Basic Period with practical clinical training for the application of the art of medicine and to prepare for the internship period.

c) Internship:

It is the sixth grade that allows students to practice the profession of medicine for an uninterrupted period of twelve months.

The purpose of the Internship Period is to ensure that the knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired in the previous periods can be applied and developed under the supervision of the instructors.

Students who graduate after having successfully completed all their courses are given the title of Medical Doctor (MD).

Students who successfully complete this program are awarded the degree of "Doctor of Medicine" (M.D.).

To be admitted to the program, candidates must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent and achieve a sufficient score in the relevant field (SAY/Quantitative) of the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) conducted by the Assessment, Selection, and Placement Center (ÖSYM). The admission of international students is carried out within the framework of the quotas and criteria determined by the Higher Education Council (YÖK) and the relevant regulations of the university.

To graduate from the program, students must:

Successfully complete all theoretical courses, laboratory practices, problem-based learning (PBL) sessions, and clinical clerkships (including internship) in the 6-year curriculum,

Accumulate a minimum of 360 ECTS credits,

Achieve a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 2.00 out of 4.00,

Fulfill all obligations and attendance requirements specified in the relevant university regulations.

Graduates who obtain the title of "Doctor of Medicine" (M.D.) from our English Medical Program possess a wide range of national and international employment opportunities, thanks to the global standards of education they receive. Our graduates can work in the following fields:

Clinical Healthcare Services: They can practice as general practitioners in public hospitals under the Ministry of Health (within the scope of compulsory state service), or as specialist physicians in university hospitals and private healthcare institutions upon completing their residency training (via TUS or international equivalent exams).

International Career Opportunities: Owing to their medical education in English and international accreditation standards, our graduates can practice medicine in healthcare institutions abroad or work in global research centers after successfully passing the required licensing examinations (such as USMLE, PLAB, etc.).

Academic and Scientific Careers: They can work as academicians in faculties of medicine or research institutes, and conduct scientific research by pursuing Doctorate (Ph.D.) programs in basic, clinical, or interdisciplinary sciences.

Healthcare Management and Industry: They can take roles as consultants, managers, or researchers in national and international pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology firms, medical technology sectors, health insurance companies, and global health organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO).

Student achievement in our faculty is determined through process-oriented and outcome-oriented assessment methods in line with the integrated medical curriculum. The assessment and evaluation process consists of the following components:

Subject Committee (Block) Exams: In Phases 1, 2, and 3, mid-term examinations covering both theoretical lectures (via multiple-choice questions) and practical sessions are administered at the end of each subject committee.

End-of-Year (Final/Resit) Exams: A comprehensive theoretical and practical final examination covering all subject committees taught throughout the academic year is administered at the end of each year.

Practical and Objective Structured Exams: Clinical skills and practical competencies are assessed through laboratory exams, OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination), and OSPE (Objective Structured Practical Examination).

Clinical Clerkship Exams (Phases 4 and 5): At the end of each clerkship rotation, students are evaluated through written (multiple-choice/short answer), oral, and bedside (clinical practice) examinations to determine their final clerkship grade.

Internship Period (Phase 6): In this final year, continuous clinical practice and case management performance are evaluated by the respective departments based on in-process monitoring and attendance criteria (No written exams are administered).

Grading: To pass a course or clerkship, students must fulfill the threshold requirements and minimum passing grade (generally 60 out of 100) specified in the Haliç University Associate and Undergraduate Education Regulations and the Faculty of Medicine Education and Examination Guidelines.
