From our ancestors until today, with the culture and art they produced and shaped-building civilizations in their wake-they have made unique contributions to the world. In medicine and architecture, in language and literature, in music and philosophy and indeed in thought and in lifestyle, they created a discipline unparalleled in human history. Thus, within an infinite process of cultivation and transformation, a way of thinking and living that transcends ages and embraces humanity has flourished in these lands.

Across the vast realms where our forebears reigned with knowledge, wisdom, science, art and philosophy, their legacy lives on in us like an imprint in our very genes. Even today, with pride, we witness reflections of their brilliance in individuals who unite multiple talents within themselves. From medicine, astronomy and engineering to visual arts, music and performing arts, such versatile and accomplished personalities have always been present among us. Hence, we can affirm that the human essence is more than capable of embracing such diversity. What remains our duty, however, is to use the time granted to us each day with discipline and virtue. This, in turn, begins within the family, continues with the guidance of parents and teachers and ultimately flourishes through the academic and scientific formation universities provide.

To the youth who look toward the future, I would say this: determination blended with the discipline of using time wisely and the art of using it with principle will provide the strength needed to achieve many goals. Let it never be forgotten time is the one resource bestowed equally upon all, yet once lost, it can never be regained.

With these sentiments, I warmly greet you under the roof of Haliç University Conservatory, one of our nation’s pioneering homes of knowledge and culture. I invite you to work hand in hand, with a spirit of production and collaboration, to contribute to the welfare and happiness of our country together. Your faith, your brilliant minds and your pure and incomparable spirits filled with love for this homeland are our most sacred trust.
