Practical Trainings and Internship Principles

HALİÇ UNIVERSITY INTERNSHIP PRINCIPLES
Students enrolled in Faculties and Schools who have successfully completed the 1st semester (fall) of the 1st year may commence their practical training as of the 2nd semester (spring). Practical training is carried out in the fall, spring and summer terms in line with the academic calendar and the applied courses specified in the curriculum of the respective departments.
In order to be eligible for graduation, students must complete all required practical trainings within their period of study.
Students enrolled in Faculties and Schools who have successfully completed the 2nd semester of the 1st year may undertake their practical training during the summer term, either in Türkiye or abroad, in accordance with the duration and conditions set out in the curriculum of their departments.
Students complete their practical training in institutions determined by the relevant academic unit or found by the students themselves. However, if the student finds the institution independently, the suitability of the host institution for practical training is decided by the practical training commission of the relevant unit. If the host institution requests any payment/fee, this cost shall be borne by the student.
The activities of the institution where the student will complete the practical training must be compatible with the curriculum content of the department in which the student is enrolled and must enable the student to develop professional knowledge and skills.
Graduate students enrolled in the Department of Psychology are responsible for finding their own clinical field placement (practical training site). The suitability of the host institution is evaluated and decided by the field practice commission of the relevant Department. If the institution requests any payment/fee, this cost shall be borne by the student.
Students who wish to undertake practical training abroad may complete this activity through ERASMUS Traineeship/Placement Programmes, other exchange and traineeship programmes arranged via international intermediaries, or through their own personal means. Students may undertake their practical training through the institutions and methods mentioned above. However, for a practical training period carried out abroad to be recognized as equivalent to the practical training required in the curriculum (i.e. to be counted as the corresponding practical course in the curriculum and accepted as equivalent to the practical components in the programme in which the student is enrolled), the student must meet the specific conditions required by the department for this type of overseas practical training, and the equivalence must be approved by a decision of the Board of the relevant academic unit.
Workdays completed by students after graduating from vocational high schools in public or private institutions or organizations related to their profession and before the start of their undergraduate studies are not recognized as practical training.
Practical trainings of students who continue their undergraduate education in a field different from the one in which they graduated from a vocational school of higher education are not recognized.
Students who are currently enrolled at our University and who are also employed, and who wish to have their working period at their company recognized as practical training or summer practice (excluding Health Programmes), may have this period accepted as practical training only if they obtain written approval on the Compulsory Practical Training and Internship Form from the administration of their faculty/school stating that “the student is currently working in a job and position directly related to the field in which they are studying.” For students in this situation, the “Work Accident and Occupational Disease Insurance” is provided by Haliç University.
For all practical trainings carried out in the fall, mid-term (semester break), spring and summer periods, “Work Accident and Occupational Disease Insurance” is provided by the University.
Pursuant to Article 5, paragraph 1(b) of Law No. 5510, students undertaking internships are covered by “Work Accident and Occupational Disease Insurance”. For those students who are not dependents under someone else’s social security coverage, the provisions of general health insurance are also applied. The premiums to be paid within the scope of this paragraph are covered by higher education institutions pursuant to Article 87, paragraph 1(e) of Law No. 5510.
The University pays the social security premiums due, in accordance with the rates determined by the Social Security Institution, directly to the Social Security Institution.
In order for insurance procedures to be completed, all required documents must be submitted at least 15 days prior to the start date of the practical training. Since insurance procedures cannot be carried out for students who fail to submit the necessary documents, these students cannot commence their internships. In such cases, their internships will not be recognized.
The University cannot be held responsible for students who commence internships “without insurance” and without informing the University.
For clinical/field practices to be carried out abroad, “Work Accident and Occupational Disease Insurance” is under the responsibility of the student.
Once the student has commenced the practical training, no change of workplace is allowed. However, students who wish to request a change of practical training place or a mutual exchange (becayiş) at least 3 weeks before the start of the training must submit a written petition to the Applied Education and Internship Coordinatorship.
In cases of force majeure such as earthquakes, fires, floods and similar natural disasters, lawful strikes, lockouts, widespread epidemics, war, declaration of partial or general mobilization and similar circumstances, the procedures and principles regarding applied education shall be determined by the Council of Higher Education.
After registering for a practical (applied) course, if the student drops the course during the add-drop period, they must notify the Applied Education and Internship Coordinatorship in writing that they have dropped the course. The student is responsible for any problems arising from failure to provide such notification.
