Future Physicians Don Their White Coats

First-year students of our University’s Faculty of Medicine gathered at the White Coat Ceremony, which symbolizes their first step into the medical profession. The ceremony, held in the Grand Conference Hall, took place in an atmosphere of pride and excitement.

In his address at the ceremony, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Enes Eryarsoy, emphasized that the white coat is an important symbol of the transition from traditional healing practices to a scientific and disciplined understanding of medicine. In his remarks, Prof. Dr. Eryarsoy stated: “The white coat symbolizes the transition from traditional healing to a scientific and disciplined medical profession. Today, you will don your white coats. Colors have almost competed among themselves over which one would prevail. White, the color that stains the quickest, has emerged as the winner.”

Addressing the future physicians, our Rector noted that the white coat is not merely a garment but also a symbol of great responsibility. “As you wear this coat, strive to carry the profession it represents with wisdom, prudence, care, and dedication to humanity,” he said.

Recalling that Ibn Sina (Avicenna) is remembered not only as a physician but also as a scholar with knowledge in many disciplines, Prof. Dr. Eryarsoy continued: “Just as Ibn Sina, with his knowledge in many disciplines, is remembered not only as a physician but also as a great scholar, I hope that each of you will become such physicians. As you help people, I wish for you to approach them with deep understanding and devotion, becoming people who heal their wounds with compassion and insight.”
Following the opening address, a musical performance presented by our Conservatory was enjoyed with great interest by the attendees.

After the speeches, students were helped into their white coats by our faculty members, symbolizing their first step into the medical profession. The ceremony concluded with commemorative photographs taken with academics and students.
