“World Instruments at Haliç” Talk Brought Together Culture and Art Enthusiasts at Our University

The talk titled “World Instruments at Haliç,” featuring collector and music teacher Volkan Yaran as speaker, was held on 20 May 2026. The event was academically advised by the Director of the Conservatory, Prof. Dr. Murat Salim Tokaç, and moderated by Lecturer Ehsan Raeisi from the Department of Turkish Music.

The event brought together music enthusiasts and introduced the rich musical heritage of different cultures. It also highlighted the role of music as a unifying element across cultures.

A Bridge Between Cultures

During the talk, traditional instruments from regions including the Middle East, the Far East, Central Asia, Anatolia, the Caucasus, Africa, the Balkans, the Americas, and Europe were introduced to participants. The event featured more than seventy instruments from approximately forty countries, with information shared on their historical development, structure, and cultural context.

Participants had the opportunity to gain insight into different musical traditions while developing a broader understanding of world cultures.

Live performances during the event provided participants with the opportunity to experience a variety of musical traditions firsthand. The program also emphasized the importance of preserving and transmitting cultural heritage to future generations.

The event, which attracted strong interest from academics, students, and art enthusiasts, continued with an interactive Q&A session where participants asked questions about the instruments and cultures presented.

The “World Instruments at Haliç” talk concluded as a well-received academic and cultural event that brought different cultures together through music.
