The project titled “Enhancing Breastfeeding Success in Visually Impaired Mothers Through a Machine Learning-Based Image Processing Model,” in which Asst. Prof. Altan Alaybeyoğlu, a faculty member in the Department of Economics at our University’s Faculty of Business, serves as a researcher, has been awarded funding under the TÜBİTAK 1005-National New Ideas and Products Research Support Program.
The project aims to develop an innovative, domestic, and original support system using machine learning and image processing technologies to reduce the challenges faced by visually impaired mothers during breastfeeding. By analyzing the positions of both the mother and the baby, the system will detect whether the baby is actively nursing, has fallen asleep, or whether the mother is in an optimal breastfeeding position. It will then provide real-time audio feedback, enabling immediate support throughout the process.
This approach is expected to improve breastfeeding outcomes and enhance mothers’ sense of self-efficacy. The proposed model offers a pioneering solution aimed at reducing foreign dependency in the field of accessible health technologies.
We congratulate Asst. Prof. Altan Alaybeyoğlu and wish him continued success.
