Prof. Fatma Zeynep Aygen, a faculty member of the Faculty of Architecture at our university, has been appointed to the Presidential Local Government and Disaster Policies Council.

Following the earthquake that struck the Kahramanmaraş region on February 6, 2023, the Presidential Local Government and Disaster Policies Council was established with the aim of developing more effective policies to combat disasters. The Council will work towards improving Turkey's disaster management strategies, creating risk reduction policies, and building a resilient society capable of withstanding disasters.

Speaking about her appointment to the Presidential Local Government and Disaster Policies Council, Prof. Dr. Fatma Zeynep Aygen stated: "Previously, I served on the Presidential Turkey National Risk Shield Council in the area of disaster management. I was selected for working groups of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which enabled me to conduct extensive research and gather valuable insights from the earthquake-affected regions. I have also worked on projects involving local governments in collaboration with our university. Additionally, I have gained experience in fire risk management. I aim to apply these experiences in my new role and contribute to our country in these fields. Therefore, I am truly honored to have been selected for the Presidential Local Government and Disaster Policies Council, and I would like to express my gratitude for being given another opportunity to contribute."

Our esteemed academic, Prof. Dr. Fatma Zeynep Aygen, will play a crucial role in providing significant support for disaster management, risk reduction, and the development of local government policies through the newly established council.
