As part of the “Experience at Haliç” series, Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil emphasized the intensive work discipline he maintained during his student years, noting that there were periods when he worked extremely long hours.
Within the “Experience at Haliç” series, Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil, CEO of Çalık Energy and one of the leading figures in Türkiye’s aviation and aerospace industry, engaged with students at our university. The event was also attended by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Enes Eryarsoy, along with faculty members and students. Attracting strong interest, Prof. Dr. Kotil shared insights from his career journey and offered a comprehensive perspective on the development of Türkiye’s defense and aviation industries.
Opening his speech by expressing his pleasure in meeting with young people, Prof. Dr. Kotil highlighted that, despite the challenges of the current era, it also presents significant opportunities. He emphasized the critical importance of students’ ability to adapt quickly to change and continuously improve themselves, noting that those who effectively seize these opportunities will play an active role in shaping the future.
Stressing that success is a continuous process, Prof. Dr. Kotil approached life from a productivity-oriented perspective. He underlined that students should focus not only on academic achievement but also on productivity, stating that the total value an individual creates throughout their life is what ultimately distinguishes them from others.
Referring to his own intensive study habits during his student years, Prof. Dr. Kotil said, “I used to work very hard when I was a student. I would stay awake when necessary because I wanted to learn. I used to work day and night,” emphasizing that determination and dedication lead to long-term success.
He also addressed technological developments, particularly highlighting the growing importance of artificial intelligence and engineering fields. He encouraged students to develop competencies in these areas, noting that artificial intelligence, when used correctly, is a powerful tool.
Commenting on Türkiye’s advancements in the defense industry, Prof. Dr. Kotil shared key insights into projects at Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ). He noted that Türkiye is among the countries utilizing advanced technologies in fighter aircraft design, adding that digital twin technologies enable systems to be tested and improved before production.
He further stated that production and development activities continued uninterrupted during the pandemic period, with university students actively participating in projects and making valuable contributions.
Highlighting the rapid transformation of the global order, Prof. Dr. Kotil described the current era as a transitional period, emphasizing that individuals who develop themselves and work diligently during such times will stand out. In closing, he advised students to set ambitious goals, work with discipline, and make the most of the opportunities they encounter.
The program concluded with a Q&A session, followed by the presentation of a gift reflecting the historical and cultural heritage of Haliç to Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Enes Eryarsoy.
