Life At Haliç
Haliç University Rowing Team successfully represented our University at the EUSA European Universities Rowing Championship held in Zagreb, Croatia.
The international event brought together 71 universities from 23 countries and more than 460 athletes. Representing Haliç University in the Men’s Coastal Double Sculls (C2x) category were Meriç Ağkuş, a student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (English) and Cevat Güney Erdem, a student in the Machine Program.
The University delegation also attended the event, with Mehmet Topal, Rowing Coach and Lecturer in the Department of Recreation and Ramadan Hayrullahoğlu, Sports Director and Head of Delegation, among the attendees.
Competing in the Men’s Coastal Double Sculls (C2x) category, our Rowing Team put in a strong performance throughout the championship, finishing 8th in Europe.
Sharing their impressions of the championship, our student-athletes stated that representing both their country and Haliç University at an international event was a particularly meaningful experience for them.
Meriç Ağkuş and Cevat Güney Erdem described their experience as follows:
“Representing our country and our University at the European Championship was a very special and proud experience for us. Seeing the results of the effort and training we had put in over a long period of time on race day was a great source of happiness.
Our trust in one another and the harmony between us throughout the race were among the most important factors in our performance. Competing together toward the same goal brought us even closer, both during the race and throughout the preparation process. Knowing that we gave our very best and having the opportunity to compete on the same course as athletes from different European countries was extremely valuable to us.
We would like to thank our coaches, our University and everyone who supported us throughout this journey. We believe this experience has been an important achievement for us both athletically and personally. We will continue working hard to achieve even better results in future competitions.”
Bringing together universities and accomplished student-athletes from different countries, the championship provided an important international platform for university sports. The result achieved by our Rowing Team reflected both their competitive spirit on the international stage and their successful representation of Haliç University.
As part of the championship, Haliç University was also presented with a plaque of appreciation in recognition of its participation in the organization and its contribution to university sports.
