Interdisciplinary Women’s Studies Symposium Held at Haliç

​The symposium titled "Interdisciplinary Women’s Studies at Haliç: Encounters Beyond Boundaries," organized by the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of our university, was held in two sessions at the Small Conference Hall. The organizing committee of the event included Prof. Rahmet Savaş, Dr. Bengü Vahapoğlu, Maryam Najafibabanazar, and Dr. Kübra Fatma Dursun Önel. The program began with a moment of silence, followed by the national anthem.

The opening speech of the symposium was delivered by Prof. Rahmet Savaş, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. In his speech, Prof. Savaş focused on women’s rights and the challenges faced by women in Gaza, emphasizing the social responsibilities of academia. He highlighted the importance of creating environments where women can fully realize their potential, stating, “Our common goal should be to create a more livable world. It is essential not only for women to have equal rights in society but also to create spaces where they can express themselves and fully unleash their potential."

The symposium continued with a speech by Dr. Bengü Vahapoğlu, who spoke about the history of gender and women’s studies in Türkiye, the impact of the feminist movement on academia, and the significance of the interdisciplinary nature of the symposium. She stated, “Today, we are not only holding an academic event; we are also gathering on a shared platform aimed at expanding the boundaries of knowledge production and critically examining its gendered framework."

The symposium concluded with the presentation of participation certificates to the speakers.​​
