COP31 Science Diplomacy Academy Launched

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Enes Eryarsoy and Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Necla Öykü İyigün attended the launch event of the COP31 Science Diplomacy Academy, held in Ankara under the coordination of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).

Speaking at the event, President of the Council of Higher Education Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar emphasized that universities should play a more active role in the COP31 process in areas including energy, water, waste and carbon management, twin transition, international research collaborations, joint and dual degree programs, as well as student and academic mobility. He stated that the scientific studies carried out by universities will be presented to the international community at the YÖK Pavilion, which will be established within the scope of COP31.

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye Murat Kurum stated that Türkiye’s COP31 vision is built around the principles of “Dialogue, Consensus, and Action.” He highlighted the importance of universities developing sustainable campus practices, actively participating in international scientific networks, and engaging young researchers in the process. Minister Kurum also announced that university students will be able to participate in COP31 initiatives coordinated by the Directorate of Climate Change.

The launch event represented an important step toward strengthening scientific collaborations among universities in addressing climate change and enhancing their contributions to the COP31 process.
