Article by Our Faculty Member Esen Seymen Published in a Q1-Indexed Journal

The article titled “Wise City Approach for Architectural Design in Historical Contexts: Visual Integrity and Decision Support with 3D GIS” by our faculty member Lecturer Esen Seymen from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design has been published in Frontiers of Architectural Research, one of the internationally reputable academic journals, and has been indexed in Scopus Q1 and the Arts and Humanities Citation Index (AHCI) of Web of Science.

The study addresses the “Wise City” approach developed to guide architectural design processes in historical environments and proposes a 3D Geographic Information Systems (3D GIS)-based decision support model. Within the scope of the research, Kurşunlu Han and its surroundings in Istanbul were examined as a case study, and spatial threshold values for the preservation of the historical silhouette were identified through visibility analyses conducted under different building height scenarios.

The proposed model offers a holistic perspective that enables architectural design decisions to be evaluated not only through technical data but also in conjunction with historical and contextual information, extending beyond conventional “smart city” approaches. In this respect, the study presents a scientific and applicable framework for new building design in historical environments.

We congratulate our faculty member and wish them continued success.
