Our University attended the 2026–2027 Higher Education Academic Year Opening Ceremony, held at the Presidential Complex with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The ceremony brought together representatives of 208 universities across Türkiye, along with ministers, members of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), rectors, academics and students.
Our University was represented by Rector Prof. Dr. Enes Eryarsoy, Deputy Rector Prof. Dr. Kazım Sarı, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Prof. Dr. Füsun Seçer Kariptaş, Director of the Vocational School Asst. Prof. İsmail Belli and students Sevde Nur Aydın, Ece Soytürk, Hasan Mert Can Ergen and Umut Eryılmaz.
In his address, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized the role of universities in generating knowledge, conducting research and contributing to society. He stated that universities should go beyond simply transferring existing knowledge to students. Instead, they should produce new knowledge through research and use it for the benefit of society.
Addressing the rapid development of artificial intelligence technologies, Erdoğan noted that these advances bring new responsibilities for higher education. He emphasized the growing importance of critically evaluating information, comparing different sources and conducting research as access to information becomes easier.
Highlighting the importance of human interaction in academic life, Erdoğan stated: “The relationship between a student and an academic is not limited to the transfer of knowledge. An academic shares their experience with their students and instills in them a scientific culture.”
President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, also delivered a speech at the ceremony. He discussed the current state of higher education in Türkiye, its research capacity and its goals for the coming years.
Prof. Dr. Özvar outlined priorities for the new academic year, including artificial intelligence, digital technologies, the development of skilled professionals in strategic technology fields, vocational education, digital transformation and internationalization. He also highlighted efforts to strengthen the research capacity of higher education institutions.
The ceremony also focused on Türkiye’s scientific and academic achievements, as well as universities’ contributions to society, entrepreneurship, internationalization and university-industry collaboration. The 2026 Council of Higher Education Excellence Awards were presented during the event.
The ceremony concluded with a focus on Türkiye’s vision for the future of higher education and its goals for the 2026-2027 academic year.
