Our Student Begüm Pusat Becomes European Champion

Begüm Pusat, a third-year student in the Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, became European champion with the Turkish Women’s National Team at the Wheelchair Basketball B Division European Championship, held in Nottwil, Switzerland, from October 12 to 18, 2026.

Finishing the tournament undefeated, the national team secured qualification for the championship to be held in Liverpool. Begüm Pusat also stood out for her individual performance, finishing the tournament as its top scorer.

Sharing her feelings following the championship, Begüm Pusat said, “I am incredibly happy and proud. We are returning from Europe as undefeated champions and have qualified for the championship in Liverpool. I find it difficult to find the words to describe how I feel.”

Speaking about the intensive preparation process, Pusat noted that the team had worked hard together. “I never took a break from my individual training, even before the training camps. Throughout the summer, whenever there was no national team camp, I came to my university to train. I would also like to thank Haliç University. Thanks to the facilities it provided, I was able to continue my individual training at the University,” she said.

Emphasizing the hard work and dedication behind the championship, Pusat added, “This championship represents a great deal of effort, tears, and exhaustion. I am very proud. I finished the tournament as the top scorer, and I believe we represented our country in the best possible way.”

Stating that her next goal is to qualify for the World Championship, Begüm Pusat shared her ambitions: “Our next goal is to achieve a strong result in Liverpool and qualify for the World Championship.”
