Berkay Erer Wins Gold Medal at the WT Rome Grand Prix

Berkay Erer, our student in the Coaching Education Program at Haliç University and one of the rising stars of Turkish taekwondo, added another remarkable achievement to his growing list of successes by winning the gold medal at the WT Rome Grand Prix.

The 20-year-old athlete reached the top of the podium after defeating several elite competitors, including Olympic and World Championship medalists, at the Grand Prix event, which featured the world’s top 32 athletes in each weight category.

With this achievement, Berkay Erer became only the third Turkish male athlete to win a gold medal in the history of the WT Grand Prix, following Hakan Reçber and Emre Kutalmış Ateşli.

Erer had already established himself as one of Europe’s leading young taekwondo athletes, having won the European Championships title in the U21 (Under-21) category for three consecutive years. At the end of 2025, he further strengthened his impressive record by becoming the U21 World Champion.

Last month, Berkay Erer also won the gold medal at the European Senior Taekwondo Championships held in Germany, marking the most significant achievement of his career to date.
