The research project titled “Acute Effects of Virtual Competitions with Different Profiles on Performance, Physiological, and Psychological Responses in Cyclists,” led by Prof. Dr. Nurettin Konar, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, has been awarded funding under the Scientific and Technological Research Projects Funding Program (1001) of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK).
The project aims to experimentally investigate the performance, physiological, and psychological effects of virtual racing and indoor cycling platforms, which have become increasingly prevalent in sports sciences in recent years. Within the scope of the study, virtual race protocols featuring different course profiles (flat, climbing, and undulating) will be implemented. Variables including power output, heart rate, perceived exertion, motivation, and competitive state anxiety will be assessed simultaneously.
The project approaches virtual racing environments not only as a training alternative but also as a scientifically valid tool for assessment and modeling. The findings are expected to make original contributions to the sports sciences literature and to provide practical guidance for coaches and athletes.
