Haliç Faculty of Medicine 2025 Fall Symposium Held at Our University

The Haliç Medicine 2025 Fall Symposium, organized by our University’s Faculty of Medicine, was held under the theme “Resuscitation for Everyone: CPR Guidelines for the Next Five Years (ERC–AHA Guidelines).” The symposium focused on the most up-to-date scientific guidelines in medicine and healthcare and brought together students from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Health Sciences.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. İrfan Papila began with a striking anecdote from his professional career. Recounting his tenure as Vice Rector at Istanbul University, Papila noted that he had closely observed significant differences in emergency medicine practices. He emphasized that emergency departments at Cerrahpaşa, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine and across various regions of Türkiye operated in markedly different ways.

Stating that these experiences laid the foundation for the establishment of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Papila explained that although he was not an emergency medicine specialist, he undertook the role of founding chair to ensure the process proceeded smoothly. Drawing on his clinical experience as a physician, he underlined that he had repeatedly witnessed how critical the minutes between life and death can be. He further emphasized that current CPR guidelines not only provide technical algorithms but also assign significant responsibilities to healthcare professionals in terms of patient safety, teamwork, early intervention, and community-based awareness.

Following the opening session, the scientific program addressed key topics including the 2025 Resuscitation Guidelines, basic and advanced life support, pediatric resuscitation, current approaches to acute coronary syndromes, updates on bradycardia and tachycardia, and post-resuscitation care. Presentations delivered by expert academics evaluated the clinical implications of the guidelines through case-based discussions.

Throughout the symposium, where theoretical knowledge was integrated with clinical experience, the vital importance of teamwork and timely intervention was once again highlighted. Participants had the opportunity to gain comprehensive insights into current resuscitation practices and to engage directly with experts in the field.

The Haliç Medicine 2025 Fall Symposium aimed to contribute to students’ professional development by bringing together current scientific knowledge and practical application.
