Assoc. Prof. Nevra Alkanlı’s Research Published in a International Journal of Molecular Sciences (Q1) Journal

A study by Assoc. Prof. Nevra Alkanlı, faculty member in the Haliç University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Division of Biophysics, has been published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, a Q1 journal indexed in SCI-Expanded and Scopus.

The study, titled “Impact of MMP1, MMP2 and MMP3 Gene Variations on Susceptibility to Peyronie’s Disease and Clinical Progression” sheds light on genetic factors that may play a role in the development and progression of Peyronie’s disease. The research investigated the relationship between Peyronie’s disease and genetic variations in the MMP1, MMP2 and MMP3 genes.

The findings revealed that certain variations in the MMP1, MMP2 and MMP3 genes were significantly associated with susceptibility to Peyronie’s disease and its clinical progression. In particular, a significant association was identified between the MMP2 CC genotype and the presence of penile plaque. The study also found that certain genotypes were associated with the active and acute stages of the disease, while others were linked to a longer-lasting and more chronic course.

The findings provide an important foundation for understanding genetic susceptibility factors in Peyronie’s disease and may contribute to more accurate assessment of patients’ clinical risks in the future. The researchers note that supporting these findings with larger-scale and long-term studies could help provide a more comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the genetic and clinical characteristics of the disease.

We congratulate Assoc. Prof. Nevra Alkanlı and wish her continued success in her academic endeavors.
