The study entitled “Integrated assessment of IDO1 activity and PD-L1 expression reveals immunometabolic alterations in non-small cell lung cancer” conducted by Assoc. Prof. Cem Horozoğlu, a faculty member in Medical Biochemistry at our Faculty of Medicine, has been published in Scientific Reports, a Q1 journal indexed in SCI and Scopus.
The study, which focused on non-small cell lung cancer, investigated the relationship between the enzyme IDO1, which plays a role in immune evasion by cancer cells and PD-1/PD-L1, important regulators of the immune system. The study evaluated the genetic characteristics of IDO1, its blood levels and alterations in tryptophan metabolism collectively.
The findings revealed that a specific genetic variation in the IDO1 gene was associated with alterations in tryptophan metabolism. In addition, notable associations were identified between IDO1 and the PD-1/PD-L1 system in tumor tissue and the tumor microenvironment.
The findings were considered to have the potential to contribute to the assessment of the immunological and metabolic characteristics of patients with non-small cell lung cancer and to the development of personalized treatment approaches in the future.
