Our University’s 2026-2027 Academic Year Opening Program was held with an opening lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Nurullah Genç. The program addressed artificial intelligence, original thinking, effective communication, individual and social development, and the importance of multidimensional thinking.
Delivering the opening speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Enes Eryarsoy shared examples from the world of science and mathematics, drawing attention to how problems that have been studied for many years can be reconsidered through different ways of thinking. Referring to the work of David Smith as an example, Prof. Dr. Eryarsoy stated that important ideas can emerge not only in academic and technological environments but also in everyday life.
Emphasizing the importance of making effective use of the opportunities offered by artificial intelligence, Eryarsoy stated that students should not limit themselves solely to the information provided by technology and algorithms. He emphasized that being curious, asking questions, and thinking about new problems are among the fundamental elements of the learning process.
Addressing the role of communication in human life, Eryarsoy noted that the perceptions of the speaker and the listener may differ during the communication of an idea, highlighting the importance of the ability to communicate accurately and effectively.
Pointing to the importance of students gaining competencies in different fields within our University’s educational approach, Prof. Dr. Enes Eryarsoy said:
“We aim to help our students develop three essential languages: the language of communication, the language of money and the language of artificial intelligence. Communication is at the heart of expressing ourselves accurately and strengthening the relationships we establish, regardless of the field we are in. Knowing the language of money is important for understanding the journey of an idea, project, or initiative toward creating value. We believe that the role of artificial intelligence in our lives will continue to grow, and we attach importance to ensuring that our students are prepared for the world of the future by using this technology correctly and effectively.”
Delivering the opening lecture of the program, poet and writer Prof. Dr. Nurullah Genç shared his reflections on individual development, social responsibility, language, success, experience, dreams and multidimensional thinking.
Drawing attention to the value of individuals within society, Genç said, “In our vision of civilization, human beings are valuable beings. We need to remember once again an understanding of humanity in which we can feel the pain of others and care not only about ourselves but also about others. Because in a society that recognizes the value of human beings, people do not become beings whose value is diminished.”
Genç also addressed the role of language and words in the way people make sense of the world, stating that the way words are used affects the relationship individuals establish both with themselves and with their surroundings. Pointing to the importance of knowledge, precaution, ability and desire in achieving success, Genç stated that acquired knowledge should be put into practice in life and developed through experience.
Emphasizing the importance of multidimensional thinking, Prof. Dr. Genç said, “For success, people should be educated in a multidimensional way. Without confining ourselves to a single field, we should think and produce in different areas and be able to view the world through different perspectives. Because the ability of a one-dimensional person to understand the world correctly is limited.”
In the final part of his speech, Genç focused on dreams and ideals, stating that an individual’s perspective on the world, goals and ideals are among the important factors that determine the direction of their life.
The 2026-2027 Academic Year Opening Program concluded with our Rector Prof. Dr. Enes Eryarsoy presenting Prof. Dr. Nurullah Genç with a special gift symbolizing Haliç’s cultural heritage.
